Úc (Commonwealth of Australia) là một quốc gia thuộc châu Đại Dương, nằm ở giữa Ấn Độ Dương và Thái Bình Dương. Đây là quốc gia duy nhất quản lý toàn bộ một châu lục và do diện tích lớn nhưng biệt lập, Úc thường được gọi là “lục địa đảo”, đôi khi được xem là hòn đảo lớn nhất thế giới.

Về diện tích, Úc là quốc gia lớn thứ 6 trên thế giới, nhưng về dân số, nước này chỉ đứng thứ 55 toàn cầu. Thủ đô của Úc là Canberra, trong khi thành phố lớn nhất là Sydney. Các quốc gia láng giềng của Úc bao gồm Indonesia, Đông Timor, Papua New Guinea (phía bắc), quần đảo Solomon, Vanuatu, Nouvelle-Calédonie (Pháp) (phía đông bắc) và New Zealand (phía đông nam).

Úc có hệ thống chính trị liên bang, với chính quyền trung ương và chính quyền tiểu bang. Quốc gia này được chia thành 6 tiểu bang và 2 vùng lãnh thổ chính, bao gồm:

Các vùng lãnh thổ có quyền tự trị hạn chế hơn so với các tiểu bang và phần lớn chịu sự quản lý trực tiếp của chính phủ liên bang. Dưới cấp tiểu bang và vùng lãnh thổ là các khu vực chính quyền địa phương (Local Government Areas – LGAs), đây mới là các đơn vị hành chính thực sự có chính quyền địa phương. Vì vậy, nếu so sánh với hệ thống hành chính của Việt Nam, thì các LGA của Úc tương đương với cấp huyện của Việt Nam.

Danh sách các LGAs của Australian Capital Territory

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) là một trong hai vùng lãnh thổ chính của Úc và là nơi đặt thủ đô Canberra. Không giống như các tiểu bang khác, ACT không có hệ thống chính quyền địa phương (Local Government Areas – LGAs) riêng lẻ. Thay vào đó, Chính quyền Lãnh thổ Thủ đô (ACT Government) chịu trách nhiệm quản lý cả cấp lãnh thổ và cấp địa phương, thực hiện các chức năng thường do chính quyền địa phương quản lý tại các tiểu bang khác. ACT có thể được chia thành bảy quận hành chính (districts), đóng vai trò tương đương với các LGAs ở các bang khác:
